Writing Resources

The PreWrite Project

This incredible workbook is one of my favorite ways to start working on a project. If you want to explore your story ideas in a productive and structured way, at an affordable price, then, look no further… instead, just click here! Thanks Kristen Kieffer for creating such a top notch writing resource!

Tools

Canva

This online digital design website is the single most influential tool I have ever used. This tool allows me to make my website beautiful, my blog engaging and my social media feed inviting. There is both a free version and a paid pro-version (which I LOVE and use). If you are looking for a way to step up your visual content game, then this is hands down the tool that you need.

Journal

Design Works makes the best journals. They are cloth covered and sturdy enough to be lugged around daily without falling apart (trust me on this one). The pages, with the option to date each at the top, are thick and don’t let ink bleed through the pages, even when I use Papermate Flair pens (also among my favorites).

Books

Complete the Story

There are many prompt books out there in the world, but this one, is far and above my favorite. Each page offers the first few lines of a story and then leaves you to finish it. Nothing is cheesy or cliche. Each story is unique and intriguing. If you are looking for something to get your creative juices flowing, this is the perfect prompt book.

How to Blog for Profit: Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup

This book has a wealth of information on starting, maintaining and growing your blog. It the single most informational source I have found about blogging and if you want to be a blogger, you should definitely read and own it.

Hungry Heart: Adventures in Life, Love and Writing by Jennifer Weiner

Hungry Heart is one of my favorite writing memoirs. Jennifer Weiner takes us from her youngest days through her teen and early career to her household name success today. Filled with advice and humor, and as the title suggests, plenty of heart, this is a book I think all women writers should read.

Write-a-Thon by Rochelle Melander

According to a recent survey, 81 percent of Americans want to write a book. But finding free time to write can be difficult for Americans. According to Gallup's annual lifestyle poll, 60% of working Americans say that do not have time to do what they want to do. Write-A-Thon helps you overcome those stumbling blocks and complete your book once and for all. And you don't have to type away for years on end. Here's a plan that will help you write your book--in twenty-six days!

Austin Kleon Books

Austin Kleon has written a three book series of titles that are the perfect pep-talk and pop art lecture on how to create art and make it seen. Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work and Keep Going are quick easy reads and serve as heaping doses of of motivation, inspiration and advice. These books are the perfect pick me for yourself, or as gift for a writer friend!
